What is an XRP wallet?
An XRP wallet is an app or device that holds the private keys to an address on the XRP Ledger. The coins stay on the ledger. What the wallet holds is the key that moves them, which is why the recovery phrase matters more than the app you happen to be using. In a self-custodial wallet those keys are generated on your own device and stay there.
A point of vocabulary, because it comes up constantly. Ripple is the company, XRP is the asset, and the XRP Ledger is the network it runs on. In everyday use people say Ripple wallet when they mean an XRP wallet, and that is what this page is about. If the ledger itself is new to you, our dedicated Ripple (XRP) page covers how it works.
XRP has two mechanics that most other assets do not, and both are covered further down. An address has to be funded with a reserve of XRP, currently 1 XRP on mainnet, before the ledger will activate it, and deposits to exchanges usually need a destination tag as well as an address. Getting either wrong is the most common way people lose XRP or have it go missing in support queues.
Where does XRP sit at Bitcoin.com
We run two separate products, and only one of them handles XRP. The Bitcoin.com Wallet app for iOS and Android does not support XRP. Its networks are Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Tron, Zano and Concordium, and the XRP Ledger is not among them.
XRP is on Bitcoin.com Accounts, the web wallet you open in any browser with nothing to download and no extension to add. It is self-custodial, so nobody at Bitcoin.com can reach your funds, and it creates an XRP address for you automatically. You can buy, sell and swap from the same screen. If you have been looking for XRP in the mobile app and not finding it, that is why.
Whichever wallet you use, you can buy XRP with a card or bank transfer, sell XRP when you want to, and follow the XRP price as it moves.
