What is the safest place to hold my XRP?

A hardware wallet, where the keys are generated and stored on a device that never goes online. The trade-off is convenience: every transaction needs the device to hand. For amounts you move often, a self-custodial mobile wallet with a backed-up seed is the usual compromise.

Should I put my XRP in a wallet?

If you are holding rather than trading, yes. XRP left on an exchange is a claim on that platform, not an asset you control, and withdrawals can be paused. In a self-custodial wallet you hold the keys, which also means the backup is entirely your responsibility.

Where is the best place to store your XRP?

Off an exchange and in a wallet whose keys you hold. Which wallet depends on the amount: cold storage for a long-term balance, a mobile or Web3 wallet for XRP you use. Whichever you pick, the recovery phrase is what actually protects the funds.

What is a destination tag?

A number that tells the receiver which account a payment belongs to. Exchanges pool many customers behind a single XRP address and use the tag to route deposits. Send to an exchange without the tag and the funds may sit unassigned until support can trace them.

What is the XRP account reserve?

The XRP Ledger requires a reserve of XRP to sit on an address before it becomes active, which discourages spam accounts. On mainnet the base reserve is currently 1 XRP, plus 0.2 XRP for each object the address owns, such as a trust line. Validators can vote to change these figures, and have done so before.

Is Ripple the same as XRP?

No. Ripple is a company, XRP is the digital asset, and the XRP Ledger is the network the asset runs on. People often say "Ripple wallet" when they mean an XRP wallet. There is no separate Ripple coin to hold.

You can buy XRP with a card, payment app or bank account, and it arrives in a wallet you control. Payment methods and availability vary by country. The details are on our buy XRP page.

You can sell XRP and cash out to local currency where that route is available to you, or swap it into another asset and stay on-chain. The steps are on our sell XRP page.

Ripple (XRP) Wallet

Hold XRP in a self-custody wallet where you own the keys. Bitcoin.com Accounts opens in your browser with nothing to download, creates your XRP address for you, and lets you buy, sell and swap in the same place.

Why use Bitcoin.com Accounts for XRP?

XRP lives in our web wallet rather than the mobile app, and that turns out to be the point: there is nothing to install before you can hold it.

Self-custody by default

Your keys are encrypted and split into three parts, and nobody at Bitcoin.com can reach your funds. The XRP is yours, not a balance we hold on your behalf.

Open the web wallet

Nothing to download

It runs in the browser you already have. No app to install, no extension to add, and you can log in from any device you own.

Open the web wallet

Your XRP address, created for you

Adding XRP creates an address on the XRP Ledger automatically. There is no network to configure and nothing to paste in before you can receive.

Open the web wallet

Buy, sell and swap in one place

Buy XRP with a card or bank account, swap it for another supported asset, or sell and cash out, all from the same screen and without a separate platform.

Open the web wallet

Built to be recoverable

Key material is split three ways and there is a recovery process behind it, so losing access to one device does not have to mean losing access to your XRP.

Open the web wallet

XRP beside your other assets

Accounts also carries BTC, ETH, SOL, BCH, BNB, POL, AVAX, DOGE and thousands of tokens, so XRP sits alongside the rest of what you hold.

How to set up an XRP wallet at Bitcoin.com

It takes a couple of minutes in the browser. There is no app to install, no extension to add, and no recovery phrase to write down.

Open Bitcoin.com Accounts

Go to accounts.bitcoin.com in whatever browser you already use, on a laptop or a phone. Nothing to download and no extension to add before you start.

Sign in with a Google account or an email address. Use the same method every time: logging in a different way creates a separate wallet with a different address and no balance.

Set up your passkey

Your device registers a passkey, and that is also what approves each transaction later. Register it on the device you actually use, because a passkey created on a desktop will not work on a phone.

Find your XRP address

Open My Assets, choose Receive, then select XRP. Your address and QR code are there already. Accounts creates the address for you, so there is no network to configure first.

Fund the account reserve

Send at least the reserve, currently 1 XRP on mainnet, to activate the address on the XRP Ledger. Below that the ledger will not hold a balance against it, so the first deposit has to cover it.

Which is the best XRP wallet for you?

Any wallet that supports the XRP Ledger will hold XRP. What separates them is who holds the keys, how much you are storing, and whether you want it on a phone, a device or in a browser.

Hardware

The keys live on a device that stays offline, and you connect it only when moving funds. More steps, more safety.

Best for: larger amounts held long term

Mobile

Before you press send

The XRP Ledger has two rules that no other major network has, and between them they account for most XRP that goes missing.

Destination tags

Exchanges share one XRP address between many customers and use a destination tag to tell deposits apart. Send without the tag and it may not be credited.

Account reserve

An address only activates once a reserve of XRP sits on it, currently 1 XRP on mainnet. It stays locked while the address exists and can be changed by vote.

Keep your XRP safe

Back it up

Write your recovery phrase or seed down, store it offline, and never photograph it or type it into a website. It is the only way back in.

Beware fake apps

XRP wallet clones are common in app stores. Check the developer name and the reviews, and reach the download from the project's own site.

Frequently asked questions

What wallet is best for XRP?

It depends on how much you hold and how often you move it. A hardware wallet suits a long-term balance, a mobile wallet suits everyday sending and receiving, and an XRPL-native Web3 wallet suits using apps on the ledger. An exchange account is for trading rather than storage.

Is there an official XRP wallet?

No. Ripple does not issue a consumer wallet, and the XRP Ledger is open, so any developer can build one. Xaman, formerly XUMM, is the best known XRPL-native option, and most major hardware and multi-coin wallets support XRP as well.

What is an XRP wallet?

An XRP wallet is an app or device that holds the private keys to an address on the XRP Ledger. The coins stay on the ledger. What the wallet holds is the key that moves them, which is why the recovery phrase matters more than the app you happen to be using. In a self-custodial wallet those keys are generated on your own device and stay there.

A point of vocabulary, because it comes up constantly. Ripple is the company, XRP is the asset, and the XRP Ledger is the network it runs on. In everyday use people say Ripple wallet when they mean an XRP wallet, and that is what this page is about. If the ledger itself is new to you, our dedicated Ripple (XRP) page covers how it works.

XRP has two mechanics that most other assets do not, and both are covered further down. An address has to be funded with a reserve of XRP, currently 1 XRP on mainnet, before the ledger will activate it, and deposits to exchanges usually need a destination tag as well as an address. Getting either wrong is the most common way people lose XRP or have it go missing in support queues.

Where does XRP sit at Bitcoin.com

We run two separate products, and only one of them handles XRP. The Bitcoin.com Wallet app for iOS and Android does not support XRP. Its networks are Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Tron, Zano and Concordium, and the XRP Ledger is not among them.

XRP is on Bitcoin.com Accounts, the web wallet you open in any browser with nothing to download and no extension to add. It is self-custodial, so nobody at Bitcoin.com can reach your funds, and it creates an XRP address for you automatically. You can buy, sell and swap from the same screen. If you have been looking for XRP in the mobile app and not finding it, that is why.

Whichever wallet you use, you can buy XRP with a card or bank transfer, sell XRP when you want to, and follow the XRP price as it moves.
