AVAX is the coin of the Avalanche network (see the AVAX price). Selling it works like selling any other coin, with one Avalanche rule on top: it has to be AVAX on the C-Chain, sent to an address that starts with 0x.
Before you send AVAX: check it's on the C-Chain
Avalanche runs three chains, and AVAX on one of them is a separate balance from AVAX on another. Our Avalanche wallet page explains the three. For a sale, four things matter.
Only C-Chain AVAX can be sold here
The sell order gives you a deposit address that starts with 0x. That is a C-Chain address. An address that starts with X-avax or P-avax belongs to a different chain, and the order won't accept one. If your AVAX is in the Bitcoin.com Wallet, it is already on the C-Chain.
A 0x address doesn't prove the network
Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon use exactly the same 0x address format, so a send on the wrong network can go through to the right-looking address and still not arrive as C-Chain AVAX. If you are sending from an exchange, choose "Avalanche C-Chain" as the withdrawal network, not "BNB Smart Chain (BEP20)": some exchanges offer AVAX on more than one network. AVAX that lands on the wrong network at a sell address is not in your control, and whether it can be recovered is up to the provider. If the amount is large, send a small test first.
AVAX on the X-Chain or P-Chain? Move it first
Staking rewards arrive on the P-Chain, and AVAX held in Avalanche's Core wallet can sit on the X-Chain. Neither can be sold as it is. Move it to the C-Chain with a cross-chain transfer in Core, which is an export and an import with a small fee for each, then sell. Avalanche has a guide to moving AVAX between chains. Staked AVAX can't be sold at all until its staking period ends (how staking works).
Keep a little AVAX for gas
Every C-Chain send pays its fee in AVAX, and the fee is burned. At current rates a plain send costs a fraction of a cent, but the wallet needs AVAX to pay it, so "send all" usually leaves a sliver behind. We say "at current rates" because Avalanche's validators now vote on the minimum fee.
How you get paid when you sell AVAX
The payout is the part of a sale that changes most from one country to the next. It comes in three shapes:
- Debit card payouts push money to a Visa or Mastercard debit card. They are usually the fastest, and offered in more countries than bank payouts. Credit cards can't receive payouts.
- Bank transfers run on your country's own payment system, in your local currency, and their speed and cost depend on that system.
- Payment apps such as PayPal are offered in some markets.
Which of these you see depends on where you are. On this page, visitors in the US and Europe are served by MoonPay. MoonPay keeps the current list of payout methods by country.
Most searches for selling AVAX come from Australia, then the US. On this page, visitors in Australia, Canada and most other countries are served by a second provider, which reads your country from your connection and offers the payouts available there. The Bitcoin.com Web Wallet sells AVAX through MoonPay, which pays sellers in Australia to a debit card rather than a bank account. If an order screen shows no cash payout for your country, selling on an exchange that serves you, or swapping to another crypto, are the routes left.
The order screen shows only the methods open to you, with the fee, before you confirm. Checked against the sell widget and MoonPay's payout table on 8 October 2026.
How much AVAX can you sell at once?
Both ends have a limit, and both are set by the provider in AVAX, so the dollar figures move with the price.
- The minimum: when we checked on 8 October 2026, it was about 1.8 AVAX through MoonPay, around $20.
- The maximum: each order also has a ceiling, which the quote shows. For AVAX it is low enough that a large holding may not fit in one order, and your own account limits can be lower still.
- Selling more: split the sale into several orders, each of which pays its own payout fee, or sell on an exchange, where limits are usually higher.
Selling part of your AVAX is fine. Whatever you keep, leave enough on the C-Chain for the next send's fee.
How to sell the AVAX in your Bitcoin.com Wallet
The Bitcoin.com Web Wallet can sell AVAX for you, through MoonPay:
- Sign in to the Web Wallet dashboard and choose Sell.
- Choose AVAX and the currency you want to receive, and review the offer.
- Verify your identity if you haven't already, accept the terms and add a bank account or card for the payout.
- Confirm the sale, then send the AVAX to the address the order gives you.
AVAX in the Bitcoin.com Wallet is already on the C-Chain, so the chain question answers itself. Leave a little behind for the fee. The minimum is about $20, and it varies. Our help centre has the step-by-step in the Web Wallet. If your AVAX is in the Bitcoin.com Wallet app, you can also send it from the app to the deposit address of an order on this page.
Where to sell AVAX: your options compared
Which route suits you depends on where your AVAX is now.
- The widget on this page: sell from any wallet that holds C-Chain AVAX, through a payment provider, with no exchange account. You see the quote, the payout method and the fee before you confirm.
- The Bitcoin.com Web Wallet: the shortest route if your AVAX is already in the Bitcoin.com Wallet.
- An exchange: if your AVAX is already on one, selling there avoids a send altogether, and limits are usually higher. Moving AVAX onto an exchange means choosing its AVAX network, and exchanges differ.
- A peer-to-peer trade: you deal directly with a buyer. Flexible on payment method, and the counterparty is your risk.
- A swap: trade AVAX for a stablecoin or Bitcoin instead of cash.
Whichever you choose, compare the amount that actually reaches your account rather than the headline fee.
How to sell AVAX, step by step
With the widget on this page, a sale runs like this:
- Choose AVAX and enter an amount: at least about 1.8 AVAX when we checked.
- Read the quote, then complete the one-time identity check.
- Choose how you want to be paid. If you're asked for a refund address, give a C-Chain address you control.
- Copy the deposit address the order shows. It starts with 0x.
- Send C-Chain AVAX to it, choosing "Avalanche C-Chain" if your wallet or exchange asks for a network, and keep a little AVAX for the fee.
- The C-Chain confirms the send in about a second. Once the provider sees the AVAX, the sale completes and the payout is sent.
The price can move before your AVAX lands, so a quote may refresh. If your AVAX is in the Bitcoin.com Wallet, the Web Wallet route above does the same job.
What it costs to sell AVAX
Three things sit between the market price of AVAX and the money that lands in your account.
- The rate you are quoted: a spread may be built into it rather than itemised, which is why headline fees alone can mislead.
- A payout fee: it depends on the method. A card payout and a bank transfer are not priced the same.
- The C-Chain fee: paid in AVAX, a fraction of a cent at current rates. It is never the part worth optimising.
Selling in pieces pays the payout fee each time. To see what your AVAX is worth first, use the AVAX to USD converter.
How long it takes to sell AVAX
The C-Chain finalises a transaction in about a second, and a final transaction can't be reversed, so the network is almost never the wait. The payout is: a card or payment-app payout can arrive within minutes, while a bank transfer can take from the same day to several business days, depending on the country and the system. Treat any single figure as typical, not guaranteed. AVAX sent on the wrong network is the one thing that turns seconds into a support ticket.
Selling AVAX for a stablecoin or Bitcoin instead
A swap is not a sale: no payout method or bank is involved, and you pay the exchange rate and the network fee.
- A stablecoin: swapping AVAX for USDC on the C-Chain locks in a dollar value without a bank, and it still needs a little AVAX for the fee. USDC on Avalanche can't currently be sold for cash through MoonPay, so cashing it out later means a different route. Our guide to selling crypto explains converting to a stablecoin first.
- Bitcoin: to trade AVAX for BTC, swap Bitcoin and AVAX instead of selling. The chain rule applies to a swap deposit exactly as it does to a sale.
Do you need ID to sell AVAX?
For a cash-out, yes. A regulated payment provider or exchange handles the money and must verify your identity before it can pay you. You do it once. A crypto-to-crypto swap involves no fiat payout, but it is not a cash-out either.
Do you pay tax when you sell AVAX?
In many countries, yes. Selling AVAX for local currency is usually a taxable event, and in some places swapping it for a stablecoin or another cryptocurrency is too, even though no cash changes hands.
Rules differ by jurisdiction and this is not tax advice. Check your local regulations or speak to a qualified tax professional.
Buying AVAX instead
If you landed here looking to go the other way, buying AVAX covers the payment methods and the C-Chain address you need, and you can check the AVAX price before you decide.
